Latvia

The main railway company in Latvia is the state-owned Latvijas dzelzceļš (LDz). However, FIP discounts do not apply to this operator.

Additionally, the Lithuanian railway company LTG-Link operates trains from the Lithuanian capital Vilnius via the Latvian capital Riga to Valga. FIP discounts are valid on the Latvian section up to Riga under the same conditions as in Lithuania.

Latvia’s railway network is based on the 1520 mm broad gauge. Passenger traffic is concentrated in Riga; the main station serves as a central hub from which most regional and suburban lines depart. Electrification is largely limited to the suburban routes in the Riga area and uses 3 kV DC, while the rest of the network is mostly operated with diesel. At the same time, the new international Rail Baltica corridor is under construction, with work clearly visible around the main station.

Estonia

Trains of the Estonian railway company Elron run from Tallinn to the Latvian-Estonian border station Valga. From there, connections are available to Riga and Vilnius. FIP discounts do not apply on the Riga - Valga route or in Estonia.

Russia

There are currently no trains operating between the two countries.

Belarus

There are currently no trains operating between the two countries.

Lithuania

Regular train service between Latvia and Lithuania resumed only at the end of 2023. LTG-Link operates a morning train from Vilnius via Siauliai and Riga to the Latvian-Estonian border station Valga, returning in the evening. FIP discounts from LTG-Link are also valid between Vilnius and Riga (see Validity of FIP Tickets). Tickets and reservations can be purchased online (see Ticket and Reservation Purchase).

Since summer 2025, there have been negotiations about extending the Vilnius – Turmantas trains to Daugavpils in Latvia.
