The company Stena Line operates various passenger and vehicle ferries. The service between Harwich (United Kingdom) and Hoek van Holland (Netherlands) is referred to as Stena Line BV (StL) in the context of FIP.
The ferry connections on the Irish Sea are operated as a separate FIP operator, Stena Line Limited (SLL).

There is only one class on the ships with regard to FIP.

Ticket and Reservation Purchase
FIP tickets must be purchased before the journey. Purchase on board the ships is not possible.
FIP only grants a discount on the fare; all additional services are charged at full price. These include, among others, cabin reservation costs, vehicle transport, as well as port fees and environmental charges.
With a FIP Coupon, the fare is free of charge.
Generally, the overnight crossing is more expensive than the day crossing. This is because the fare is higher at night and cabin reservation is mandatory.3
The costs for day and night crossings can be viewed on the Stena Line website before booking. To do this, first visit the Stena Line website (UK). If you want prices in Euro, select the appropriate language at the bottom of the homepage.
In the next step, you need to switch to the old booking system. The new booking system does not show a detailed cost breakdown.
Then you can proceed through the booking steps. When choosing the fare, you can select Flexi or Economy.
After selecting all desired additional options and cabins, you will receive a cost breakdown in the sidebar. With a FIP Coupon, the travel costs (listed as Economy or Flexi) are set to 0, while the remaining amount stays the same. Therefore, the travel costs can simply be subtracted to determine the costs with a FIP Coupon.
As of 22.12.2025, port fees are £ 3 / € 3 and environmental charges are £ 10.30 / € 12 per person per crossing. In addition, there are cabin costs and other additional options, which are charged at full price.

You will usually receive two reply emails from Stena Line. The first email confirms your booking request. The second email provides you with a payment option via pay per link. You will then need to enter your credit card details.
After payment, you will receive an email with your booking confirmation, which also serves as your ticket – you must of course bring your FIP tickets with you.
Important Information
Payment via pay per link is only possible on the same day that the corresponding payment request email is received. The link expires at midnight. If this is the case, please contact Stena Line again.

Reservations
Cabin reservations are available and mandatory for overnight journeys.
Children up to 4 years travel free of charge, children aged 4 to 14 are entitled to a 50% discount on the adult fare, from 14 years they pay the adult fare. 1
Personal Tip
Stena Line offers tickets that allow combined train and ferry travel at a reduced price. No additional FIP discount is available on these tickets.
Please note that check-in is only possible up to 45 minutes before departure. Therefore, please allow sufficient time for your journey.
Arrival at the station Hoek van Holland Haven is usually via Metro Line B from Rotterdam and Schiedam.
Station Schiedam Centrum: direct transfer to IC and RE trains of NS.
Station Rotterdam Centraal: transfer options to NS trains. To reach Hoek van Holland, change from Metro Line D at station Beurs.
Station Rotterdam Alexander: direct transfer to NS trains to the main Dutch rail interchange Utrecht Centraal.
Important Information
RET N.V. does not accept FIP, so a regular ticket must be purchased for the metro ride. This also works contactless and with ApplePay.
Due to Hoek van Holland being far from central Rotterdam it can be cheaper to buy a 2 hour ticket depending on your destination (€5.50 as of 2026). To the main interchanges currently the kilometric fare is only cheaper to Schiedam Centrum (€5.28), the biggest saving can be had for Rotterdam Centraal (€8.28).
In Harwich, there is a connection at Harwich International station to Greater Anglia trains to/from London.
Personal Tip
Stena Line offers a great way to be in London before 10 am if you invest a little more time the day before. The afternoon can be spent in Rotterdam or at the nearby beach, which is only one metro stop away. If you are in a hurry, you should change at Schiedam Centrum station.
